
Qingdao Technological University is a comprehensive university with harmonious development in the subjects of science, engineering, economics, management, art and law, and majoring in engineering, characterized by mechanical, civil and environmental engineering. The University has cultivated over 40,000 graduates spreading all over the world, most of whom are undertaking employment in higher education, scientific research and advanced administration in China, several European and Asian countries, the USA, Australia and other locations.
Qingdao Technological University was founded in 1953 and is located in Qingdao, which is famous for its beautiful environment and pleasant climate. The University grounds cover more than 1,133,900 square meters, among which the school buildings encompass up to 460,000 square meters. The University consists of 16 schools (or departments), 21 research institutes, 14 provincial priority disciplines, laboratories and engineering technology research centers. The library has a collection of 1,110,000 books. Qingdao Technological University has 963 faculty members, including 150 professors, 330 associate professors and over 140 teachers with doctorate degrees. Curricula are offered for students majoring in doctor, master and bachelor degrees with total student numbers of over 20,000.
Qingdao Technological University possesses a large number of high-level teachers and researchers. It has accumulated considerable experience in cultivating graduates and postgraduates through establishing a personnel system to develop teachers and researchers. It is active in scientific research while also giving priority to teaching. Since 2000 the University has undertaken 17 projects of teaching reform at provincial level, won a second prize for National Teaching Achievement and 32 prizes for Provincial Teaching Achievement, and has published 147 textbooks. Altogether over 150 projects have been undertaken for the National “973” and “863” Projects, “Shi Wu” Science and Technology Principal projects and for all kinds of subjects for the National Natural Science Funds and 510 macro projects of enterprises' trust and social service. Among these, research by Professor Yang Peiran, “Investigation on the influence of nano-scale solid powder on the continuity of thin film lubrication”, was appraised as The Excellent Development and Achievement Project of 2001 in the mechanical subject area of the Committee of the National Natural Science Fund. In the recent 5 years the University has won 2 prizes for national science and technology development, 46 prizes for provincial or departmental science and technology development and 3 national-level invention patents. One hundred and thirty-eight achievements have been transferred or adopted, and academic essays, monographs and works referred to by SCI, EL, ISTP are on the rise year after year.
Study
Compulsory courses for Chinese language students and the undergraduate majoring in Chinese are usually conducted from 8:00 to 12:00 am every Monday through Friday, with elective courses held in the afternoon. International students enjoy national festivals and holidays of China and the summer and winter vacations of the university.
The university provides a tutorial course for the HSK exam taught by highly qualified teachers. These classes required an additional fee.
Chinese Language and Culture Course
This course is taught in Chinese and is composed of four study levels: Elementary Level (A), Elementary Level (B), Intermediate Level (C, D), and Advanced Level (E), offering the following courses: Intensive Reading, Spoken Chinese, Reading, Listening Comprehension, Chinese Culture, Chinese Writing, and Chinese Newspaper and Periodicals.
Summer Chinese Language Course
This is divided into Elementary Level, Intermediate Level, and Advanced Level, offering the following courses: Comprehensive Survey of Chinese Language, Spoken Chinese, Listening Comprehension, Chinese Culture, and Reading. These courses are held in Chinese.
